Book Review- Love and Respect Dr Emerson Eggerichs

WOW! If I had to sum it up in one word it would be WOW! Love and Respect, by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs is simply an incredible book. It's not a guide, or a tool, or a lesson. It is a lifechanging message. Whether you're in a great marriage, a good marriage, a mediocre marriage or a failing marriage this book will give you the know how to make it better. Dr. Eggerichs basis for the book comes from Ephesians 5:33," However each one of you must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect the husband." He says that love is what a woman most needs and respect is what a man most needs, without love a wife will respond without respect, without respect a husband responds without love. This results in conflict and hurtful words, this is what Eggerichs calls the crazy cycle. He goes on to tell you that essentially it's not about your relationship with your spouse, it's about your relationship with Jesus. If you're not unconditionally loving or unconditionally respecting your spouse, you're not loving and respecting Jesus. And the key here is unconditional love/respect. Jesus doesn't tell us to love/respect our spouse because of their behaviour. He tells us to love and respect them because they are made in the image of God, that's it, plain and simple. WOW!
