Ok admittedly this is probably not my best choice for a blog title. Oh well, I'm not changing it. This song has been on repeat since the beginning of December...not that anyone else could hear it, it was being sung by the carolers in my head. Don't tell anyone about them though, I don't like the white room. Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yes, I was preparing to tell my faithful readers all about our fun filled Christmas.
'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, except for the mouse. The stockings were hung on the bookshelf with care knowing full well St Nick would not be there...He was stuck in the snow in Blue Springs. We almost were, in fact I think we may have passed him on the road. Just kidding. Really, though we spent Christmas eve with my Aunt Vicky and some of her family and at my cousin (Vicky's daughter) Sarah's house. We were the last to leave, we're such party animals, and we almost didn't get out. There was ALOT of snow. (Kids if you didn't get any presents it's cause Santa was snowed in) We didn't have a traditional Christmas dinner, we had italian food YUM! And, lucky me, I got to do desserts. I of course went overboard and decided that it was a good idea to make Tiramisu. Something I have never made before and even though it was kind of liquidy and falling apart it tasted good. Nobody complained that it was a challenge to serve, they just grabbed forks and ate it off of the platter. I got rave reviews for it and I'm looking forward to trying it again...someday...when I have the time and patience to beat the stuff to the consistency it needs to be. I also made "deconstructed" cannolis...again rave reviews and since I had extra filling left over I mixed it with one of our cannoli toppings and made it an apple dip. I didn't take any dessert home. Solomon had a blast playing with the dogs (there were 4 of them) and opening presents.
We arrived home to discover that we needed to wrap our gifts to each other and proceeded to stay up till 3 am wrapping presents. I woke up first and made breakfast, I was smart and did a casserole that went into the oven when we opened gifts and came out when gifts were done. Solly and Joe both got kid laptops from Pops (David's Dad), blocks, clothes and books. Solly got some cars, some animals, some fisher price little people toys and a basketball hoop and dinosaur collection from my mom and Papa Randy. Joe got books and some smaller toys. The crowning gift on Christmas day though was (in my opinion) the one that David and a few other people pitched in to get. They got me a Cricut...And the angels sang "hallelujah!"
Solomon also got to play in the snow with David for the first time. This was quite an accomplishment seeing that the snow in our back yard was waist high (on Solly) in some places. We got some great pictures and if my computer ever works right again I'll post them in another blog. He played until his cheeks were pink and his gloves were soaked. He even tried to drive his snowed in "flinstone" car.
Christmas night we went over to my mom's house and opened presents there, and as mentioned before Solly got a basketball hoop and dinosaurs, Joe got a car seat toy...a guitar! We ate ham and got heartburn (well, I did anyway) and we finally left there at 11pm.
The day after Christmas we drove to Clinton to visit David's mom and we opened more presents there. The boys got more blocks and Horton Hears a Who and David and I were more excited about Horton than Solly was. Then home we came and that was the end of our Christmas weekend. Whew!
All in all we had a great time seeing family, we even got to see one of my brothers from Colorado who drove all night to get to us Christmas eve. And we got to witness one of the funniest things I've seen in a very long time...a Dobermann who thinks he's a lap dog. It was amazing. This huge dog (I do mean huge his head was taller than my hip) just climbed up in my brother's lap and fell asleep. Hilarious!!!
So, to finish my random thoughts and accounts of our very busy, yet very fun Christmas...
Although it's been said many times many ways Merry Christmas to you!
Might I add that although this song has been stuck in my head since the beginning of December I only heard it once on the radio, AFTER Christmas!
